Trinity Leeds and White Rose Announce 'Refill Me' Initiative
Trinity Leeds and White Rose Shopping Centre, both owned and managed by Landsec, have unveiled a new green initiative, Refill Me, which allows guests to easily identify where reusable water bottles can be refilled with no obligation to purchase. Since the campaign launched last week, a total of 37 shops at both centres have signed up to take part.
As part of the centres' ongoing sustainability efforts and in a bid to cut single-use plastic consumption, visitors can now fill up their water bottle for free at any retailer displaying a Refill Me sticker in its window.
Visitors can pop in and fill their bottles with cold tap water with zero obligation to make a purchase from the retailer.
Trinity Leeds and White Rose brands signed up to the Refill Me initiative include Costa Coffee, Caffe Nero, Lush, Pizza Hut, Bagel Nash, Juice, and many more.
The new campaign is part of both centres' wider green strategy, which includes aerobic digesters that turn waste food into water, pumped back into the UK water system, on both sites, a plastic straw ban at Trinity Leeds' Trinity Kitchen, and the largest solar photovoltaic system at a retail site in the UK at White Rose.
David Maddison, General Manager at Trinity Leeds, said: "We're passionate about protecting the future of our planet. Not only will Refill Me help to reduce the amount of single-use plastic, but it will also help to ensure our guests are kept well-hydrated during their visit."
Steven Foster, General Manager at White Rose, added: "It's important to us to minimise our impact on the environment wherever possible. Refill Me is the next step in our over-arching green strategy which includes our solar photovoltaic system – generating enough electricity to power 200 UK homes for 12 months, our rooftop bee colonies, and rainwater harvesting systems."
Trinity Leeds and White Rose are owned and managed by Landsec, which is rolling the Refill Me programme out across all of its centres nationwide.
Tom Byrne, Sustainability Manager, commented: "Refill Me is a brilliant way of reducing the amount of waste we produce from single-use plastics.
We're really excited to be able to offer our guests a sustainable shopping experience."
